It is difficult to imagine any other 3-night/4-day break providing such a good balance of relaxation, interest, indulgence and companionship as you will experience on this holiday. Cruise from Gloucester’s Historic Docks along the first ship canal ever built. Capture glorious views of the Cotswolds escarpment, upper Severn estuary and Forest of Dean. Stop for guided tours of Berkeley Castle to learn about the unique heritage of this place, and the ‘Purton Hulks’ graveyard of 80 barge wrecks scuppered to shore up the canal embankment. You can also visit the Wildfowl & Wetlands Centre founded by the ‘father’ of nature conservation, Sir Peter Scott and the Cotswolds Canal Trust Heritage Centre to discover the history of the local waterways. Why not travel to Gloucester the day before this cruise to explore the magnificent Cathedral and other sights?
A very interesting and informative cruise.Meredith and Linda, NSW Australia, Sept 2014
Super holiday, lovely atmosphere, food , wonderful crew. Just right, have already booked for next year.
This is the second cruise we have done ,as with the first we could not have been more satisfied with the itinerary, the crew, the food , everyone was extremely helpful.
Αn excellent introduction to canal cruising. The Edward Elgar was clean, well set out, with comfortable accommodation. Interesting organised on shore excursions. Best of all? The catering! We would happily go again... (Apologies for the cat photo - I couldn't delete it!)
Captain and crew were all cheerful, helpful and made us feel relaxed. The food was excellent as was the entertainment. The cruise was just the right amount of time to show us all we'd hoped to see of the Gloucester/Sharpness canal and its surrounds. The cabins were compact but comfortably designed to contain ensuite facilities. We liked the self-serve coffee, tea and fruit available all day, the books and jigsaws.
