Severn Wonders Cruise
6 tours & 1 excursion
Available June to September
2019 dates are available for booking.
In recent years our regular passengers have often asked us to put on a longer cruise which travels the entire length of the Severn navigation between Sharpness and Stourport. So in 2016 we introduced the new Severn wonders cruise.
This cruise still starts and finishes in Gloucester but takes in over fifty miles of waterway and there is more than 100 miles of cruising. As we cruise at just over 4mph that takes a while so we added a night to make this a six night cruise.
Cruise up the River Severn all the way to Stourport and visit the Severn Valley Steam Railway, Upton upon Severn, Tewkesbury Abbey, Worcester Cathedral. Then, discover the highlights of the first ship canal in the world, visit Slimbridge and the famous Purton hulks barge graveyard.
This is the most comprehensive cruise we have ever offered visiting all the highlights of the navigation. Enjoy!
I've created the Severn Wonders cruise to enable our passengers to see all of the highlights of the Severn Navigation in just one trip. With over 100 miles of cruising this is not to be missed!Richard Clements, English Holiday Cruises Ltd.
The whole experience exceeded my expectations. The organisation was excellent and everything ran like clockwork. The itinerary was well constructed and we found it most enjoyable. The company of the other passengers added to the enjoyment of this holiday. Food was first class also.
Our holiday met or exceeded our expectations. The crew and staff were invariably friendly and helpful. The itinerary was well presented, varied and interesting, with many helping facilities. The food and service helped to make eating very pleasurable and promoted a "house party" ambiance
We thoroughly enjoyed our cruise. Everything promised in the brochure was as it said. There was just enough extra excitement, such as very high water levels on the Severn, (would we be able to get beneath the bridge?) and a bridge that would not open on the Gloucester Sharpness canal, to add a frisson of anticipation, but ,of course, the excellent staff coped with all eventualities, including arranging a coach from the stuck bridge to Slimbridge so our visit there was not delayed and all was well! The bridge even opened for our return journey. The cook deserved a medal - lovely meals and he remembered the likes and dislikes with no reminders. Friendly staff, congenial company, comfortable cabins - and all with the beautiful countryside to enjoy! What more could we ask for!
Recipe. One amazing boat called EdgarElgar, delightful and efficient crew.1 wizard chef producing mouthwatering food. 1. Captain full of anecdotes and information. 20 like minded people. Time to relax and get to know each other. Interesting itinerary great value for money.Result. A fantastic 7 days living long in the memory.Try it yourself!
This was a lovely relaxing cruise. The accomodation was surprisingly spacious and the beds were very comfortable. Showering was interesting and you do have to organise yourself, didn't try it but you could probably sit on the loo and shower at the same time. All the Crew, Skipper included, were great and as well as being helpful provided entertaining commentary on the voyage and all sorts of other topics. The food was absolutely lovely and no one could ever do an "Oliver" or say they were hungry, probably more a case of ... please no more.
Have cruised on the 'Elgar' four or five times now and the quality never changes, no matter what problems are thrown by outside sources, the crew cope with it. Therefore there is no downside to this boat, crew, company or venue. We have booked for next year already ! Can't wait, and the biggest thrill is meeting like minded people who cruise with you, new friends to be made and laughs to be had. So, if you fancy a relaxed cruise with great crew and guests, see you there.
It was a dream come true. We desperately needed a time of relaxation and refreshment. We had it in generous measure.
This was an entirely different holiday for us having been on several river cruises in Europe. After getting used to our cosy cabin we found the cruise relaxing with a variety of interesting places to visit. The food was good and we found the crew helpful. The evening entertainment on board was also good. The captain added a new dimension to quizzes! The quoits competition provided us with great amusement even though we came last (someone had to lose). We enjoyed the company of all our fellow passengers.
Thoroughly enjoyed the whole week and all the other passengers were very easy to get along with.
"Having done 2 river cruises in Europe we were surprised at how much we enjoyed visiting Worcester and Upton upon Severn. Not being very mobile I found the mixture of sailing and tours ideal and particularly appreciated the taxi ride to Slimbridge I couldn`t have walked there and gone round the wetlands. All the crew were wonderful and their versatility amazed us, one minute steering the boat, next waiting on or helping to moor, and such a happy bunch!. We could tell that the boat was purpose built and admired the space saving yet roomy design of our cabin. I must add our praise to the chef for the very appetizing meals produced in such a small galley, he kindly allowed me to look round it.

Cruise Options & Pricing
It can be stressful travelling to Gloucester on the day your cruise boards. Will you get there on time? Should you leave early just in case? We can help by arranging a holiday extension on the night before you board, at the Hatherley Manor Hotel nearby Gloucester. This also gives you more time to explore Gloucester itself. For many of our cruises the majority of our guests do this and they are delighted. They gained an extra day’s holiday, a touch of luxury and a lot of convenience while saving money compared with organising everything themselves.
